High Intensity Training (HIT) was highly practiced in the 1970s, and remains to be one of the best, yet controversial fitness workouts in America. The inventor of HIT, Arthur Jones’ general philosophy was “…train harder, but train briefer” or “…train harder, but train less often.” Although this workout puts the “I” in Intense, students can expect a safe and effective workout that includes plyometrics (squats, jumps and plyo push-ups), speed and agility drills, core and balance work, and much more.
When sophomore, Chelsea Powell attended the HIT class for the first time she felt completely energized. “The workouts vary every week so I always feel challenged,” she said. “The environment is very inviting and non-judgmental. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to incorporate cardiovascular exercise and weight training into their routine. I guarantee you will feel completely energized after you’re done.”
Class instructor Lindsay Del Rossi advises students to eat some complex carbohydrates such as peanut butter sandwiches; so students have enough energy before class begins. “Sometimes I do circuit style classes that work the total body with 10 different stations and other times I will build an obstacle course that the students have to complete four to five rounds in an hour.” Regardless of the class style, students should be ready to workout with enough energy to do so.
Senior, Samantha Budhathoki enjoys HIT because it's a total body workout within 60 minutes that is effective. “HIT is challenging, but gratifying in the end, and produces effective results,” she said. “Lindsay is a great teacher and helps students with their form and motivates you to push harder. One workout can have you feeling great.”
The HIT class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Don’t forget to bring a towel, water and good energy.
