As one of the Student Recreation & Wellness Center’s (SRWC) building managers, Gabe Pasillas works around the clock to maintain a safe and functional facility for the students he serves. Despite his designation as a part-time student employee, Gabe operates as an indirect supervisor to many other student-staff members. Gabe always chooses to lead by example, and in the process, he brightens his workplace and ensures satisfaction among members of the SRWC.
When asked why he chose to work at the SRWC, Gabe answered, “It’s an amazing gym! Truly one of the best in the country – the staff here put lots of effort into the facility, and it shows!”
Beyond his affinity for the world-class equipment and services in the SRWC, Gabe’s personal ambitions lead him to seek out a position where his leadership skills can shine.
“I’ve always wanted to work in law enforcement,” he said. “Working here gives me a chance to build up my confidence – I’m always working with my hands, working with other students and even delegating when I need to.”
Gabe is passionate about the people he works with, and it shows. His role as building manager makes him a crucial piece in the backbone of the building’s operations, and, as humble as he is, the SRWC wouldn’t be the same without him. Despite that, he still gives all of the credit to his coworkers.
“I can’t express how grateful I am to work in an environment like this,” he said. “The ASI team is like a family, and I care for them like one. From the SRWC, to the USU, to all of the other facilities run by ASI; I’m proud to be part of an organization like this one.”
