Sturtevant Falls

Did you know that Sturtevant Falls crosses the Big Santa Anita Canyon and is one of the finest waterfalls in the Angeles National Forest? Well, Saturday, Dec. 6, is your chance to see this 50 ft. waterfall in person.

Students will depart from the SRWC lobby at 7 a.m., after arriving in Los Angeles; the group will leave the Chantry Flat trailhead at 10 a.m. and hike approximately 3.25 miles to the top of Sturtevant Falls. From there students will be rappelling off the 50 ft. cliff and relax at the base of the falls before hiking back to the trailhead.

Sarah Hui, rock and outdoor adventures student assistant, wants to let students to know that, “It’s always good to escape into the outdoors when we live in an urban and fast paced environment. The Sturtevant Falls trip is a good experience to meet adventurous people and enjoy the beauty of nature.”

Christopher Huebner, outdoor adventures and wellness coordinator, encourages students to take part in this adventure trip because it’s the perfect way to get away and experience some of the great things that SoCal has to offer. “These trips are planned out to the point where students just have to sign-up, show up, and enjoy the trip,” he said. “The only thing students have to think about is the clothes they are going to wear.”

Tyler Thiele, rock and outdoor adventures student assistant, voiced that this hike will give students the opportunity to experience rappelling in a beautiful setting, next to a waterfall. “Students with every range of experience will enjoy this trip,” he said.

The sign-up deadline is at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 at the Outdoor Equipment Desk in the SRWC. The cost of the trip is $35, which includes transportation and equipment. This is a trip you don’t want to miss!
