The triathlon is today’s fastest-growing sporting event, and now you get a chance to try it out on campus! For two consecutive Fridays this month, you will have the opportunity to swim, run and bike in a mini-triathlon!
Hosted by SRWC Fitness, the stationary triathlon was held this past Friday, April 21. Participants could sign up each hour to participate in one, two or all three events. There were giveaways for participants who did all three and prizes for overall male and female winners!
“It’s triathlon season right now, so this is a fun way to experience what it’s like without the intensity of a regular one,” said fitness coordinator Maureen MacRae. “We’ve had many students do it in the past—some realize it’s for them and venture out to do full-scale ones, and others just find it a great way to get fit for the summer!”
This coming Friday, April 28, SRWC Inclusive Recreation will be hosting a blind triathlon in the Aquatics Center from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Participants will be partnered together to guide one another—tethered by wrist straps while they swim and jog, and ride a bicycle with only one set of eyes.
“This is an exciting collaboration between inclusive recreation and aquatics, and gives students who are visually impaired a chance to try a mini-triathlon,” said Aquatics and Inclusive Recreation Coordinator Mike Freeman.
Winners will receive a prize pack with swim packs, goggles, a towel and a $25 Robeks gift certificate. All participants can register early for the triathlons at the fitness desk.
“You have nothing to lose by tri-ing it!” Freeman joked. For more information, visit www.asirecreation.org/fitness/featuredevents.
