The Student Recreation & Wellness Center provides student and non-student members a place to work on their fitness goals, focus on their mental wellbeing and develop healthy, holistic habits. But, did you also know that the SRWC has an opportunity for students to focus in on their professional development as well?
NIRSA Day is the SRWC’s first large scale event dedicated solely to the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, also known as NIRSA. This event, happening on Feb. 22, is all about letting students know about the career and development opportunities that are available in the recreation industry!
All activities happening on NIRSA day are related to NIRSA’s philosophies on health, wellness, inclusion and leadership. Plus, students who attend and participate in the activities are entered into a raffle to win a 3G bike!
“We’re going to have a lot of fun activities like a tic-tac-toe run, a basketball game, a football toss and so much more,” said Maureen Macrae, the interim director of the SRWC. “In addition, we’ll also have free food and representatives from some of our campus partners.”
Don’t think that your major has anything to do with the recreation industry? Think again! There are opportunities in membership services, marketing, technical support, finance and so much more.
“We want all students to come learn what NIRSA is and how it could benefit the students looking for a job,” said MacRae. “It’s not just about intramurals or fitness, it also involves a lot of other aspects of campus recreation that students may not know about.”
NIRSA Day is happening on Friday, Feb. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the SRWC. You won’t want to miss out!
