Pop Pilates takes classical pilates to the next level by challenging students to rhythmically flow from one exercise to the next, developing a rock-solid core and leaving no muscle untouched. It is a mat-based fusion of ab-chiseling and total body defining moves choreographed to your favorite Top 40 hits.
“We get to work out to music we actually listen to,” said POP Pilates Instructor Angela Patricio. “Each class is choreographed to a custom playlist of the Top 40 hits ranging from pop, hip-hop, funk and more!”
This format challenges every muscle in your body while also working on your balance, improving flexibility and stamina. On top of that, POP Pilates integrates mindfulness, including attention to breath and form. This class is a great foundation for any type of physical activity: dance, sports and everyday activities. “Students will stand taller, feel rejuvenated, and find relief from physical and mental stress,” said Patricio.
All students have the option to bring a yoga mat, but the class also provides one for you. Also, footwear is not required, but if you choose to wear shoes, it should be supportive with a comfortable fit.
Psychology major Jillian Mempin thinks POP Pilates is a fun way to exercise. “It keeps you moving and works out parts of your body you didn't think you could work out and the soreness you feel the next couple of days is always the best part,” she said. “I've enjoyed the past two classes I've taken so far. The instructor is great and very motivating. I didn't expect the intensity of the class, but it's all worth it at the end."
Another student, Jasmine Mariscal encourages all students to take this high intensity class. “The class is intense, but the instructor makes modifications so all levels can participate.”
POP Pilates is a full body fitness class that is offered every Wednesday at 3p.m. in the Farber Fitness Room.
