Get into the giving spirit with a little help from your friends at the SRWC! Fall into gratitude by donating food, joining our beach clean-up and enjoying free refreshments every Monday this month!
“With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we here at the SRWC want to promote an environment of giving and receiving,” Membership Services and Outreach Coordinator Leiana Swanson said. “Our goal is to cultivate gratitude among all of our members - students, alumni, staff, faculty and affiliates – and show that the SRWC cares about our community.”
The food drive, which will extend throughout the month of November, is the perfect way for members of the Beach community to give back. Drop off any and all non-perishable food items at the SRWC and we’ll deliver it to the ASI Beach Pantry, helping to alleviate stress from students with food insecurity. Once you’ve made your donation, you can draw a hand-turkey and write what you’re thankful for to be put on display on the main staircase in the SRWC. Have a meaningful impact on your fellow students by helping them stay full during the holiday season, and spread thankfulness in the process!
Another way to give back to our local community is by joining the beach clean-up from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 16, at Rosie’s Dog Beach. As Leiana Swanson described it, “You’ll be part of an amazing group of students and community members that want to leave a positive impact on Long Beach and the environment as a whole.”
As part of this team, members will enjoy free refreshments, along with a beautiful day at the beach and, of course, some seriously adorable dogs. Parking is free with the code “JR1116”. In addition, participants will be rewarded with a free workout from the SRWC fitness staff! All necessary materials will be provided, so check in from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and bring your pets to take part in the fun!
Lastly, every Monday of the month is Member Appreciation Monday at the SRWC, and that means free refreshments such as KIND bars, trail mix bars and coffee for you, our valued members! Stop by and pick up your free treats either before or after your workout in the SRWC lobby.
Fill your heart with good deeds by getting involved with Fall Into Gratitude wherever you can. Whether you’re dropping off canned soup, picking up plastic on the beach, or showcasing all of the things you’re thankful for – every bit of kindness can have a huge impact.
“We’re not just a gym,” Leiana said. “We’re here for the Beach community, and we aim to prove that by spreading positivity throughout November. The bottom line is: the more you give, the greater the gratitude we all experience.”
