Fitness and flexibility collide in the SRWC’s brand new class: Fit and Flex! High intensity training is spread out amongst various fitness formats, followed by focused flexibility—culminating in a powerful, yet refreshing workout.
“This class is designed to offer an additional group fitness format for students,” said class instructor Heather Mazzei. “It promotes body awareness, increases fitness levels and encourages participants to have fun while exercising!”
The class itself will comprise of 45 minutes of high intensity training with a number of fitness techniques like body weight, plyometrics, cardio and balance, among others. Following this, participants will engage in 10-15 minutes of stretching.
“Often times, people finish a workout and say, ‘Eh, I’ll stretch later,’ but later never comes,” said Mazzei. “By incorporating the flexibility piece into our class, we are ensuring participants give the appropriate time and energy into a very important fitness principle—flexibility.”
Participants will use interval timers to complete exercises on time and exercise in group stations. This class will also teach basic fitness techniques and form, which are essential in becoming an autonomous exerciser.
“Most people will only exercise if they like what they are doing, and I want students to enjoy the experience,” said Mazzei. “Come have fun for an hour with friends and other health-minded students!”
Fit and Flex will take place on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Pura Vida Fitness Room. For more information, visit www.asirecreation.org/fitness/group-fitness.
